Talent is a God given skill. Every individual has been graced with a unique talent. Your ability to discover, nurture and deploy it, is completely up to you. In an attempt to help discover young talents, Miss Philanthropy Africa Botswana visited the outskirts of Maun village. She landed in a primary school at Bodibeng village where she met 23 girls who are interested in pageantry.
She carried out training sessions with them for a week as a way of helping them build their confidence, catwalk and fuel their passion. Afterwards, she organized a mini pageant with the theme: Unearthing Raw Talents, Miss and Little Miss Bodibeng Primary school. According to her, she organized the pageant to help these girls showcase their enhanced skills as well as give them a taste of the feeling of what it means to walk on the path of your passion.
There were 2 categories of the competition as stated earlier, for 13 girls, aged 8 and 9 years, and the second category was for 10 girls, aged 11 and 12. The event was also used as a fundraiser as entry fees was P2.00 for students and P5. 00 for adults, which was directed towards the School’s Prize giving fundraising project.
The Management of Bodibeng Primary school was very supportive, and it was fun working with them. Especially Ms Segakolodi Sechele, who helped with organizing the event, Mr Tjimunoko, the School’s Head, his deputy and other teachers were a handy support system towards the success of the program. It was decided that the 23 contestants will be given their prizes during the Prize giving ceremony in October as a way of appreciating the students for assisting to raise funds for the Prize giving day.
Our Botswana Queen also received support from Miss Mini Mahalapye, Lesego Orebotse, a 13year old, who donated 5 dresses from her previous pageantry competitions for the success of the event. The clothes were used by some of the girls who didn’t have dresses for the finale. After the event, our Queen donated the dresses to the school for their future competitions and other activities.
It was an eventful week. Amongst other activities, Queen Pearl Asalepele Ojahile gave a motivational talk to the students during assembly time.
